June Edition – Controversy: Two Sides of the Same Coin

Photojournalists Note by Manya Srivastava and Tanisha Jhaveri

The resonating fact that echoes through history is that there will always be two sides to the same story, two faces to a coin. While history may capture one and the media may portray another, that doesn’t invalidate either. Here at the Casual Observer, the photographers tried to capture the essence of a story by looking at it through multiple lenses, rather than one standard perspective. Be it the theme of abuse or differences in lifestyles.

We have all encountered differences, be it in a school, workplace or friend group, and while some differences may seem rather insignificant, each difference leaves an impact. We tried to capture the impact of differences, rather than just the objective differences through these images. 2020 has been a challenge for everyone, but rather than seeing it just as a problem, we have the ability to be part of an inspiring movement, a change that will impact our future generations more than we realise right now. Sometimes controversy is a necessity for growth, and the current situation has given us an opportunity to display that and grow as a community.
